1976 movie omen It is still considered one of the best horror films of all time, thanks to its performance, story, and direction, as well as Jerry Goldsmith’s score that helps elevate the unsettling experience to frightening levels. While the music has had a variety of versions over the years, Varèse Sarabande is set to re-release the notes on vinyl in a way that captures the effectiveness of that music, thanks to its blood-red vinyl with black spots. According to a press release, “Varèse Sarabande is pleased to announce the release of LP for omen With music by Jerry Goldsmith, led by Lionel Newman. This special LP version of The Omen features the original 1976 12-track soundtrack album on red vinyl with black spots. The album is now available for pre-order and will be released on September 23.
“omen It was a smash hit, starring Gregory Peck as an American ambassador who learns that his adopted son is, in fact, the Antichrist. With its horrific mishaps for those who would stand in the boy’s way, cult cults and demonic protectors, and fantastic End Times legends, the film captured audiences’ imaginations and led to a long-running franchise.
“omen It was a special project for Jerry Goldsmith: the only time he won an Academy Award in his long run for Best Original Score. It was also nominated for Best Original Song for “Ave Satani” – the creepy Black Mass song that turned Latin liturgy into a black chant of Satan.
The result is one of Goldsmith’s best songs: not just the hymns to “Ave Satani,” but the way he incorporates it into his edgy modernist music on tracks like Killer’s Storm, The Demise of Mrs. Baylock, and Dog Attack.
But Goldsmith has always been in tune with the human warmth behind chills and excitement—and the result features moments full of hope and passion for the Ambassador’s family, including the release of a love-theme song, ‘Piper Dreams,’ with lyrics and vocals by the composer’s wife, Carol.
